How to stop a dog from chewing can play a huge part in training Jack Russells. Whether you are just starting to train your puppy or if you have been at it a while, you may be looking for some help. Puppy training can be frustrating when tackled by yourself. Jack Russell Terriers are cute and have a lot of energy. They are a good work dog and can be an excellent family pet as well. Even so, some JRT have problems with their behavior like chewing. If you need to know how to stop dog chewing, Jack Russell training tips may be able to help you: Jack Russell Training

Russells originated in England in the early 19th century and were initially used to hunt red foxes. Because of their training, Jack Russell Terriers generally have high stamina and are very bright. But if JRTs don’t get enough exercise or if they are under stimulated, they are prone to being moody and even destructive. Behavioral issues may need to be address with proper Jack Russell obedience training. Dog training to stop chewing can also help those people who are experiencing dog chewing issues with their Jack Russells.

How to stop a dog from chewing isn’t always as easy as taking them to a class. General obedience training for puppies may be the answer if you dog is also having other obedience issues. Basic training for puppies may not be sufficient if your Jack Russell Terrier’s dog chewing comes from reasons other than basic lack of obedience.

Puppy chewing problems may also be avoided by supplying your dog with lots of games and toys to keep them busy while you’re gone or otherwise engaged. Keeping a Jack Russell busy can be a lot of work. Physical punishment should not be part of any Jack Russell obedience training program. Physical punishment can cause your puppy to be nervous, which can cause more puppy problems. Dog chewing problems with your Jack Russell Terrier should be easy enough to remedy without having to resort to physical violence.
If giving your dog items and tasks to keep it busy still hasn’t rectified your puppy chewing problems, you can also try spraying the items he/she chews on the most with a bitter, sour, or spicy spray. Ask your veterinarian or pet supply store clerk about “no chew” sprays.

Often referred to by the tag “man’s best friend”, dogs have been man’s trusty and loyal companion since time immemorial. But more often than not, even from an early age, dog owners from all walks of life find themselves facing the dilemma of how to stop a dog chewing. The reasons why pet dogs acquire the habit of chewing are many and the habit even starts when the dogs are just young puppies. Something in common with humans, dog chewing can be caused by teething and gum itching as puppies or something mundane like the urge to be playful. Check this out: How To Stop A Dog Chewing

At any rate, there are actually very easy ways to find out more on how to stop a dog chewing. It is good counsel that you commence teaching your dog when it is still a puppy and in fact, the age of even 6 weeks old will do. This is because again, like people, dogs go through what can easily be referred to as “formative years” when they are pups.

Probably the best way of how to stop a dog chewing would be to spend more time engaging your pet dog in play.

During the times you encounter it using its teeth in a way that is not pleasant or to your liking, give your dog a light but unpleasant tap on its nose or snout and accompany that gesture with a high-pitched “no”. This can very well serve as a handy technique in how to stop dog chewing, because the more frequently you do this, the quicker your dog will pick up on the notion that you do not favor his chewing.

It is a usual thing for dogs to be inclined to chew objects and possessions that maintain a strong aroma. So in this regard, it is best to set aside your possessions that may adhere to this given trait. Common targets for dog chewing are known as rubber or thick plastic things (watches and sunglasses) and bags, shoes, accessories, and leather items. Check this out: How To Stop A Dog Chewing

In place of these, it is advisable to instead invest in and provide your dog with a rubber toy such as a bone, so if it should find the need to chew on something, you can help to make it clear that this toy or bone is what you consider to be acceptable. Do not hesitate to scold your dog when you find it chewing on something aside from the toy or bone, as your key objective in this case will really be to make the clear distinction between what is okay to chew and what would heighten your sensitivity. It will not do to just stand and watch your pet chew on things. Remember that contrary to what we may often tend to think, spanking or scolding your dog will not decrease the chances of its being close to you.

Many dogs, in fact, see your making an effort to spend time with and better them as a sign of affection and appreciation, and this appreciation will no doubt be shown in turn, when your pet realizes all you really aimed for was achieving success in how to stop a dog chewing under unfavorable circumstances.
